Abdallah Kittata Finally Released From Luzira

The patron of the BodaBoda 2010 Abdullah Kitatta is out of prison. Earlier today, the General court martial of appeal upheld Kitatta’s conviction on charges of illegal possession of fire arms and ammunition.
Kitatta, the patron of the BodaBoda 2010 and his bodyguard Sowali Ngobi were challenging their conviction and sentence handed to them in May last year after they were arrested in January 2018. Kittata’s release followed a reduction of his jail term by the General court martial of appeal on Friday morning
The court chaired by Justice Elly Turyamubona reduced Kittata’s jail sentence and that of his co-accused bodyguard Ngobi Sowali from 10 years to 3 years and upon reducing the period that the two have been on remand, Justice Turyamubona ruled that they would only serve one year and six months
”We found out that Kittata and co-accused completed the one year and six months in July this year and he should have been released in july, we have released him, he is at home” said Frank Baine, the public relations officer for prisons.
The Appellant Court sitting at Makindye on Friday ruled that his sentence by the General Court martial was excessive and was faulted for handing out the sentence without the evidence of the arresting and investigating officers.
The General Court martial ruled that these officers were not essential witnesses necessary in the prosecution process.
