Arsenal Starts The Season With Triumph Over Liverpool

Arsenal win their 16th Charity/Community Shield thanks to a perfect penalty shootout, five goals from five kicks. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was Arsenal’s match winner as they won the Community Shield on penalties against Premier League champions Liverpool after it finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning penalty having opened the scoring for Arsenal early on before Takumi Minamino levelled things up on 73 minutes.
For the second year in a row Liverpool lose the Community Shield on penalties to Mikel Arteta (he was Manchester City assistant last year).
Unfortunate for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, who did not get a touch (excluding his missed penalty) after coming on with seconds left.
This is Arsenal’s second win at Wembley this month. Their FA Cup final win over Chelsea was on 1 August.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to BT Sport: “I’m so happy. I knew the challenge we were facing today. Thank you to the players for the effort and the performance.
“The courage of the team [was the most pleasing thing], how aggressive we were without the ball and to break the pressure of Liverpool. I knew in the second half we would suffer.
“This generates belief, to be able to compete against a team like this in a final makes me happy.”
On Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: “Big games, big moments, big players. He has responded really well to that kind of pressure. He was magnificent in the FA Cup final and the same today.“
