Bobi Wine Hires Bodyguards For Troubled Lubega Mukaaku

In a bid to ensure his mentor doesn’t get bumped off by disputed tycoon Aloysius Mukasa’s supporters, Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Sentamu has liaised with his chief bodyguard Eddie Mutwe to get Kanyamas to oversee Sam Lubega Mukaku’s personal security. Mukaku recently survived being butchered by Mukasa’s violent supporters in the Natete-Busega slums as he supervised youth elections. In the end, a young man grabbed his red beret as he conducted a media interview, leaving him very humiliated.

Mukaku, who was on Tuesday relieved of his duties as Vice Chairman for the PP/NUP Elections Management Committee, on Wednesday held a news conference in Kabusu Rubaga where he implored his supporters not to be angry at Kyagulanyi saying he has power to fire him just like the way he appointed him to the job. But as he addressed the press conference, a group of 15 violent young men took positions waiting to harm him as he left the
But they later on withdrew after orders came for them to exit after realizing that unleashing violence inside the home of area LC1 Chairman Mzee Michael Kato (who is a leading DP elder and opinion leader in Rubaga South) would be politically counterproductive as it would hurt Mukasa’s image. Storming such a home (of the Kabusu family after whom the village was named) and unleashing violence there simply because Mukaku was addressing reporters in the compound would discredit candidate Mukasa whose supporters appropriately withdrew.
But that fresh attempt on Mukaku sent frightening signals prompting some of the PP/NUP officials to cry out to Kyagulanyi to do something to shield the elderly Mukaku who claims to be the vision bearer and founder of PP which he only called Kyagulanyi to lead. Before the press conference ended, three Kanyamas walked in and took charge of Mukaku’s security. They were sent for him by Kyagulanyi who made the arrangements through Eddie Mutwe and this has enhanced the personal security of Mukaku who now says will be moving door to door in Rubaga looking for votes now that he is no longer busy with EC work in NUP. At the Kabusu press conference, Mukaku vowed to make sure there is no other candidate carrying the PP/NUP flag except him.
He also claimed to have been a victim of some powerful actors at Kamwokya (he didn’t name them) who are fond of extorting money from aspirants while assuring them of getting the NUP ticket regardless of what the Mercy Walukamba-led EC says or comes up with. In vowing not to bow out for Mukasa, who will most likely carry the flag, Mukaku is counting on DP conservatives in the constituency who he believes can still rally behind him because they have struggled with him for decades against the NRM.
