Court Sets Date to Giving Ruling on Besigye’s Bail

The High Court of Uganda says that it will give its ruling on the bail appeal made by Dr. Kizza Besigye on the 6th of June

The opposition activist is currently challenging the cash bail of 30 million shillings he was ordered to pay by Buganda Road Magistrate Court.

Dr. Kizza Besigye through his lawyer Erias Lukwago filed an appeal at the high court challenging the stringent bail conditions that the Buganda Road Magistrate Court set.  

The opposition leader was ordered to pay a 30 million shillings bail by Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha on a case of inciting violence after he was arrested in downtown Kampala on Tuesday, an amount he is challenging.

Dr. Besigye’s lawyer Erias Lukwago says they are happy that the court is ready to handle their appeal.

According to Lukwago, they are prepared for anything that will be thrown their way.  

Dr. Besigye has since refused to seek the funds or solicit from his supporters and is currently remanded at Luzira Maximum Prison.  His lawyer Erias Lukwago speaks out on his incarceration
