Covid-19 Relief Cash: Government Rubbishes Fake Links Circulated By Conmen On Social Media


The government through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has warned the public about unknown con men who are apparently leveraging the impending government planned cash support to Ugandan who have been badly affected by the second Covid19 national lockdown.

As the Office of the Prime Minister draws up the parameters for the support which will be sent out to individuals through mobile money, some unscrupulous people pretending to be from the Ministry of Gender have reportedly laid out a scheme to fleece the public,

These are said to have put out a web-based link calling on the public to register for the “Government COVID 19 Support grant”.
“The link is using the web address httns:// It promises payments within 24 Hours of purported approval,” said the Gender Ministry Spokesman Frank Mugabi.

“This notice serves to caution the general public against this scheme. The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development under the National Multi-Sectoral, COVID Taskforce chaired by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister is finalizing the process of identification of categories of persons that will be considered for Government support and will soon advise the public accordingly. The public is urged to wait for official Government of Uganda communication on the process.”
