Covid -19 Update: NIRA Headquarters Closed After Staff Tests Covid-19 Positive

Following a spike in COVID-19 cases in Uganda, a number of government agencies have had their employees tested for the deadly pandemic disease and among these include the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) whose one (01) employee tested positive at their Headquarters located in Kololo, Kampala.

It is in this regard that NIRA has decided to close its head offices to the public for two (2) days from Tuesday 15 September to Wednesday 16 September 2020 to avoid any possible further spread of infections.
According to the statement released by NIRA, the offices will be reopened to the public on Thursday 17 September 2020 once the premises have been disinfected in line with the Ministry of Health guidelines.

We have also learnt that while the offices remain closed the following services will be suspended:
I. Issuance of National IDs
II. Issuance of birth and death certificates
III. Fresh registrations for National IDs
V. Replacement of lost, defaced and damaged National lD cards
V. Correction of errors clients may however access services from any other NIRA District and Division offices nearest to them.
“We wish to encourage our clients and members of the public to continue observing the Covid-19 SOPs and take the necessary precautionary measures stipulated by the Ministry of Health to reduce spread of infections, protect families and save lives,” statement reads.
