According to a police statement released today, Katwe Police is holding about 147 people arrested during its Christmas operations to hunt for people who go against the ministry of health guidelines put in place to fight the spread of covid-19 Guidelines.
Luke Owesigyire the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan police noted that the arrested people were found in various bars like Happy Boyz Namasuba, New Best Hotel Nateete, and many others.
”The suspects were found operating against the Ministry of Health guidelines and violating the curfew as well and they are currently held at Katwe Police on allegations of engaging in a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease contrary to section 171 of the Penal Code Act and will appear in court on Monday 28/12/2020” he said
In similar operations, Kira Division Police has also arrested 182 people and currently in their custody awaiting charges for violating Covid-19 guidelines as put in place by the ministry of health.
Owoyesigyire further warned the general public and bar owners to be cautious about the Covid-19 guidelines and enforce them in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

”We warn bar owners that operations to enforce guidelines against the spread of Coronavirus are on and those found operating bars in contravention of the fight against COVID-19 will be dealt with in accordance with the law”. he said
