Katakwi Woman MP Maj Jessica Alupo has this morning been approved as the new Vice President of Uganda, replacing Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who has dropped from the cabinet last week.
“I will not spare myself while serving the country on this appointment and I will work closely with Parliament as a team.
The Motion to support Alupo’s appointment was moved by the Ruhinda North MP who is also the government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa who hailed her as a leader who never left anyone behind.
Hon Charles Bakabulinde the Workers MP seconded the motion saying the Vice President-designate is a person of high integrity.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary appointment committee has also approved the Kakumiro district woman MP Robinah Nabbanja to serve as the Prime Minister of Uganda replacing Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda Ndugu.
“I will work hard to ensure that every Ugandan is served equally irrespective of their status,” said Nabbanja shortly after approval.
Nabbanja becomes the first woman to serve in this capacity in Uganda’s history.
The Motion to support Nabbanja’s appointment was moved by the Kinkiizi East MP who is also the Minister-designate of ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi who said that Uganda was proud of having a female Prime Minister which also supports ARTICLE 33 OF THE CONSTITUTION.
The motion was supported by Betty Amongi.
The 11th Parliament chaired by the deputy speaker Anita Among is vetting Ministerial appointments made by the President among who include the chief whip and the Minister of Finance.
