Express Declared Winners Of The 2020/2021 StarTimes Uganda Premier League

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has declared Express winners of the 2020/2021 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season, their seventh league title, and their first since 2012.

Express has been log leaders on 58 points with four games to go, they were one point ahead of second-placed URA and two behind Vipers.

The same statement confirmed Kyetume FC (14th) MYDA FC (15th) and Kitara FC (16) as the teams relegated to the StarTimes FUFA Big League.

“The FUFA Emergency Executive Committee has on Tuesday 29th June 2021 taken the decision to end the 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League based on Article 18, Section 1, Sub-section C & D of the FUFA Competition rules,” read part of the statement on the FUFA website.

The above article states; “Where the league format due to circumstances of force majeure is not played to completion the league winner shall be determined as follows.”

“Where at least one club has played more than 75% of the league games, the following formula shall be used by TOC (Terms of Conditions) to determine the league positions.”

The article adds: “Total number of points earned from the number of games played multiplied by the total number of games supposed to be played divided by the number of games played.”

Express will represent Uganda at the 2021/2022 Total CAF champions League while URA who finished second has been nominated to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

FUFA also confirmed that the Stanbic Uganda Cup which is at the semifinal stage will be played to a conclusion before the start of the 2021/2022 new season.

On who will be promoted from the FUFA Big League to the top tier, the FA noted; “The games will be played to conclusion and determine the third team to the Uganda Premier League.”

“But depending on clearance from National Council of Sports and guidelines from the Ministry of Health guidelines about the Covid-19,” the statement added.
