The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has directed the Minister of Internal Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo to respond the concerns  raised by Members including the abuse of human rights in the concluded General Elections and the state of security in Uganda.

During Thursday plenary, Opposition Chief Whip Hon Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda raised concern over the continued disappearence of Ugandans allegedly by the security agencies.

Ssemujju noted  that it’s unfortunate that many families are forced to sleep outside their houses as a security measure and further demanded for an explanation.

Parliament condemned the abuse of Human Rights by some of the security agencies and urged them to exercise restraint in enforcing the law.

In her turn, Kadaga has cited Human Rights reports by different stakeholders during the Election Period.

She directed the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee to undertake a comprehensive analysis on the state of respect/abuse of human rights in the recently concluded elections and report back to Parliament.

The Speaker equally condemned “house arrest” of Bobi Wine since the January 14 election to 25th January after Court directive.

She directed Gen Odongo to appear before plenary and explain the whereabouts of Ugandans who are missing after they were allegedly picked up by armed personnel during the General Election.
