Gov’t To Spend UGX 409 Million On Late BOU Governor Mutebile’s Funeral

The government of Uganda is set to spend over UGX 409 million on Uganda’s longest-serving governor at the Bank of Uganda Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile’s funeral.
Emmanuel Mutebile, the Governor of The Central Bank of Uganda died in the wee hours of Sunday morning in Nairobi hospital in Kenya’s capital where he had been admitted since late December last year.
The Parliament of Uganda is having a special sitting today to honor the fallen finance giant and economist.
He is set to be laid to rest on Sunday at his ancestral home in Kabale.
According to a post by NTV journalist, Andrew Kyamagero, documents of the budget for Mutebile’s final send-off estimate the ceremony to cost over UGX 409 million.
The documents indicate that the budget not only caters to the final day of send-off but the days and events up to Sunday.
This is according to the document’s title; Budget for Friday, Saturday, and the whole of the next week after the burial.
According to the documents, the budget is meant to cater for food items, event paraphernalia like tents and chairs, masons, casual laborers, and the works on the road that leads to the Governor’s residence.
