How health workers are minting millions from selling Covid-19 vaccination cards

Kasilo County MP, Elijah Okupa, has raised a matter of National Importance over the conduct of some health workers around the country who connive and sell Covid vaccination cards to persons who do not want to take the COVID19 jabs.

Hon Okupa has reported that he knows of a group of individuals who are planning to travel to Nigeria but intend to use those forged certificates.

The Speaker has asked Hon Okupa to share the information with the Health ministry and Security minister for action.
Hon Elijah Okupa is concerned about health workers around the country who are conniving and selling Covid vaccination cards to individuals who are willing to take the Covid jabs.

He has called upon the Ministry of Health to take upon this issue.
Hon. Elijah Okupa is also concerned by the large numbers of people who were stuck at Entebbe Airport for 8 hours on Wednesday due to the delay in having their results released.

Hon. Anifa Kawooya Minister of State for Health (General Duties) has reported that the team from the Ministry of Health is already on ground at Entebbe to have the issues raised resolved.

Last week, we reported that COVID-19 vaccination cards were being sold to unvaccinated people at a cost of Sh100,000 in Lira, according to Ivan Kareiga, the Officer in Charge of operations at Lira Central Police Station.

According to reports, upon vaccination, one receives a card from the Health Ministry bearing their particulars such as name, occupation, name of the vaccine used and when the second dose should be administered. The card is temporarily used as proof of vaccination as one waits for the vaccination certificate which is issued 14-days after the person receives their final jab.

However, in Lira, it was discovered that some people are selling the cards to both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people at sh10,000 and sh100,000 respectively. The issue is reportedly more common among teachers and anti-vaxxers across the district, according to Kareiga.

The matter comes up at a time when the Ministry of Health is emphasizing vaccination against COVID-19, as one of the measures to tame the disease that has paralyzed the country since last year, killing millions of people across the globe. Vaccination, according to medical experts is one sure way of containing and controlling the virus.

Hon. Patrick Nsamba Oshabe has asked the Ministry of Health to report to the house about the money they were given to establish Port Health facilities including the State of the art laboratory at Entebbe Airport.
