Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has taken a jibe at President Museveni, saying that as he has always done in the past years, he is again going to trounce him and his cronies in the forthcoming elections.

Lukwago made the remarks on Wednesday as he launched his bid to return to office as Kampala Lord Mayor.

“Museveni has on several occasions tried to capture the city for the past 10 years but has failed. He has brought many ministers including Wabudeya(Beatrice), Muruuli Mukasa, Frank Tumwebaze, Benny Namugwanya and Beti Kamya but I have stood firm.

They then hyped Jenniffer Musisi and many other RCCs but all have failed on the mission. I Have defeated them and will always defeat him(Museveni)”Lukwago said.

Lukwago also commented on the KCCA Amendment Act, 2019 which he said was fronted by former Kampala minister, Beti Kamya so as to step on his powers as the political head of the city but noted that the mission failed.

“Kamya wanted to put Kampala in the hands of Museveni by amending the law to make the minister, the new political head of the city but their mission was stopped by opposition MPs. I want to tell him(Museveni) and his agents that I am a bulldozer which has been reignited and I am coming their way. Let them wait for what is going to befall them.”

“Museveni said he had diluted me but he has felt me for the past five years.”

Lukwago never minced words as he attacked Walter Lubega Mukaaku and Michael Mabikke, the chief campaigning managers for Joseph Mayanja for the Kampala Lord Mayor position.

He insisted that the two politicians have nothing much to add onto Mayanja, adding that their mission has failed even before taking off.

“Those two should know that wealth is got through hard work and not moving around to beg for free things. If Mabikke wants any help from me, it should be on how to become an advocate to avoid the embarrassment he got when he was kicked out for having fake documents,”Lukwago said.

Lukwago used the function to unveil his performance for the past five years since he was re-elected as Kampala Lord Mayor in 2016.

He mentioned a total of 14 KCCA laws whose making he has contributed to and a number of his achievements.

“By the time I came to City Hall, corruption was the order of the day but I have fought the cartels and mafia gangs involved in this vice. They wanted to own the entire city but I have dealt them big blows. In the first term, I spent three years out of office because the mafia ganged up against me.”

A number of politicians especially from the ruling NRM government have accused Lukwago of not doing anything to help improve the city.

Speaking in what seemed a response to them, Lukwago said there is nothing he has not done within his power to make Kampala a better city.

“Some people deceive Ugandans that I have not lived up to my mandate but I am here to debunk their words. If talking and advocating for rule of law in the city, I am as guilty as charged.”

He added, “I am here to resume with my programs. If it is a rocket, I have taken off . Having defeated pythons, these small snakes(his opponents) should just bow down for me.”

Lukwago served as the first ever Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Authority in 2011 but has found a number of hurdles during his tenures.

Between 2013 and 2016 Lukwago spent time out of office after being impeached by KCCA councilors over incompetence but despite returning to office, he has been involved in battles with the central government.

He will be seeking for re-election for a third term and a second full term in office as Kampala Lord Mayor battling with Jose Chameleon and Latif Ssebagala
