Just In: NRM CEC endorses Thomas Tayebwa as flag bearer for deputy speaker

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has endorsed incumbent government chief whip Thomas Tayebwa to stand for deputy speaker of parliament position.
According to the parliamentary caucus meeting that took place today, at the Kololo independence grounds, Thomas Tayebwa went through unopposed after his contenders pulled out of the race.
“Thank you colleagues for endorsing me unopposed for Deputy Speaker on NRM ticket,” Tayebwa announced.
Tayebwa will now battle with Kioga County and National Unity Platform’s Okot P’Bitek Moses who has been fronted by the opposition members in parliament.
Meanwhile, the opposition has also endorsed JEEMA president Asuman Basaalirwa to compete to face off against NRM’s Anita Among for the speakership whose elections are slated for tomorrow Friday 25 March 2022 to replace late Jacob Oulanyah who passed on last week in Seattle In the US where he had been admitted battling a terminal illness.
