Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has reportedly cleared the upcoming Nyege-Nyege concert to happen as planned.
According to reports, this followed a meeting held on Wednesday morning at her office to discuss matters relating to the hosting of Nyege Nyege concert.
Details from the meeting indicate that it was agreed upon that security ensures that no immoral acts take place at the festival which is scheduled for 15th to 18th September at Itanda Falls, Jinja.
According to Hon Akello Rose Lilly, the Minister of State for ethics and integrity, the event organizers have been directed to ensure that no underage children are allowed to attend.
The ministry also wants police to monitor and ensure that all eventgoers are not indecently dressed and that no immoral acts are allowed at the event.
The meeting was attended among others by Police, Ministers of Tourism, Internal Affairs, Gender, Labour and Social Development, ICT and National Guidance and Ethics and integrity
Yesterday the speaker of parliament Anita Among directed that this year’s Nyege Nyege be cancelled citing immorality noting that the government through the Ministry of Tourism of promoting tourism at the expense of morality.
“You are trying to promote tourism at the expense of our children, and we are not going to allow that function to take place,” Among told parliament.
