Masaka catholic priest detained over murder

Reverend Fr. Richard Mugisha, the parish priest of Bisanje Sub County in Diocese of Masaka was summoned by police on October 13th and arrested for the murder of a thief Ronald Kyeyune who recently attacked him. He was later given bond and ordered to report back Today 15th October and was detained after he reported.
Muhammad Nsubuga, the greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson says that Fr Mugisha called police to alert them about the arrest of a person who had allegedly broken into the windscreen of his motor vehicle. However, the suspect died shortly after arriving at Masaka Central Police Station.
He explains that the suspect who was apprehended by the village security team on a routine night patrol was naked and had smeared himself with motor vehicle oil which raises suspicion about his real motive.
The cleric is being accused of ganging up with other people and killing Kyeyune.
It is alleged that together with the villagers, Mugisha beat up Kyeyune as he was trying to steal his car and he later died in police custody.

Mugisha is remembered for urging Ugandans to vote Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine against Museveni in the January elections. He said that the president has fooled Ugandans for so long and needs to let other people lead and develop Uganda.
“Bobi wine brings sugar but the other one brings fire. He says that he will not leave power because there is not anyone who fits in his position yet, who are they fooling? So for 32 years, there is not anyone who can take power and lead?
“Everything has its time, if the time for youths has come, give them power and they lead,” He said in a speech at a burial.
