Ministry of works & transport takes over vehicle registration from URA
The ministry of works and transport has taken over the mandate of registration of all vehicles from the tax body Uganda revenue authority(URA).

The shift from Uganda revenue authority to Ministry of Works and Transport was announced in April 2019 however the plans were hampered by limited funds to carry out the exercise.

Ministry of works revealed that they have realized URA has been concentrating a lot of their work on revenue collection, noting that other areas like safety have been neglected,

Speaking during the handover, the minister for works and transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala revealed that this move will help in the implementation of installing of digital tracking devices on all vehicles as earlier directed by president Museveni as one of the means to reduce criminality.
