Demolition Super Sub “Moussa Dembele” Advances Lyon To Semi-Finals In Champions League

Manchester City’s Champions League dream is over for another year after a late double from Moussa Dembele sent Lyon to the semi-finals.
Lyon, who finished seventh in Ligue 1, will face Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
They led through Maxwel Cornet’s 20-yard curling effort but Kevin de Bruyne levelled for City with a smart finish.
Dembele chased on to a long ball to put Lyon ahead, and then the substitute tapped home a third goal to clinch the win after an Ederson error.
Raheem Sterling missed a glorious chance to force extra time, just before Dembele’s second, when he blazed over an empty net from six yards.
Rio Ferdinand claimed Manchester City had learnt lessons from recent Champions League failures.
Ferdinand said: “I could see against Real Madrid there was a composure to their game I haven’t seen at this stage and against this type of team for a while from a Man City team.”

Unfortunately, that composure evaporated when it mattered most.
It was a tough night for City but Sterling yet again delivered a bright display in a big game and superbly set up Kevin de Bruyne’s equalizer.
But his good work was undone by the sitter he somehow missed with the goal gaping from just six yards out moments before Lyon put the game to bed.
Manchester City played a high line against Lyon – and it cost them dearly.
They were caught out by a simple ball over the top as Karl Toko Ekambi was set free in behind.
City’s high line was exposed yet again for the second goal and their defensive frailties were again laid bare when it mattered most.On a night when City lacked spark, the presence of Aguero would have been a huge boost.
