Former Minister for tourism, Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi has spitted fire after fellow members of the ruling NRM party that they did not appreciate his sacrifices to the party.
The seemingly disappointed Kiwanda was expressing his dismay at how he was boycotted by his own people in favour of Hon. James Kakooza who won the East African legislature squeeze in Friday’s caucus resolution.
These NRM people are hypocrites. They don’t appreciate what some of us are doing for the party. I am the number 4 in the party heirarchy and I was even the first to show interests in the EALA seat before anyone else did,” Kiwanda ranted. “What haven’t I done for NRM? I used to attack NUP in the entire election campaign period. What did Kakooza do to be rewarded this EALA position?,” he noted.
The ex Mityana North MP says he now has no choice but be a spectator in Uganda’s politics. “I will just concentrate on my TV and radio programmes and also do some farming,” Kiwanda says. “If the NRM sees any value in me, maybe I’ll be called for a diplomatic job,” added the Miss curvy pageant organizer.
Kiwanda Was defeated by Kabula Constituency Member of Parliament, James Kakooza to replace fallen Mathias Kasamba within the East Africa legislature .
In the elections held at Kololo Independence Grounds yesterday NRM Parliamentary caucus Kakooza emerged the winner after garnering 93 votes beating his competitors, Kiwanda who got 85 and Abas Mutumba (former political assistant to the late Kasamba) who garnered 54.
Kakooza now replaces Kasamba who died in April this year, consistent with EALA office tenure, he was supposed to be out of office at end of 2022 and now awaits to be presented to the ground of Parliament by NRM Chief whip in Wednesday next week, and thereafter he will officially combat the mantle after taking oath.
Kakooza joins fellow members on the NRM ticket, the likes of Paul Musamali from East, Denis Namara from West and George Stephen Odongo from North.
