Police arrest three over bomb attacks

Police arrest three over bomb attacks
Police and security agencies have tracked down and arrested three persons who are believed to have plotted the recent bomb attacks in Kampala.

The attacks, in Komamboga, Kawempe division at a local pork joint on Saturday and another inside a traveling bus in Mpigi on Monday evening left two people dead and several others injured.

According to Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga told reporters this afternoon that so far three persons including two women and one man have been arrested and are being questioned.

Enanga identified the suspects as Abdurahim Waibi, Sanyu Nakitende and one Aisha Katushabe and these are believed to be part of the Sleeper Cells being run by the Ugandan terror Group ADF which based in the DRC.

Enanga says Waibi and Nakitende had received up to $140,000 from DRC to distribute it to ADF agents in Uganda. One of the recipients, he said was Katushabe who was tracked down and arrested in Hoima District.

According to the Police Mouthpiece, there is now confirmation that both attacks in  Komamboga and Mpigi were executed by the same group.

The group is also known to have made foiled attempts to carry out bomb attacks in Pader at the funeral of former DIGP Paul Lokech and, at Kawempe Police Station.

“The group of attackers are using different strategies. We have proven that they have suicide vests and belts given the vest we recovered in Pader, which was supposed to be used the late Hamid Nsubuga.

Regarding the bomb attacks, Enanga warned that security had received intelligence that the group is planning a much bigger attack.

“The Intelligence we have is that these sleeper cells have been recruiting, radicalizing and researching on how to build IEDs based on the bomb materials we have recovered. It shows that they received clear instructions on how they assembled them,” he said.

“Right now we are also analyzing intelligence that they could be having a bigger plot of carrying out a major attack on major installation.”

The group, Enanga said is being supervised by an ADF Commander identified as Meddie Nkalubo, who also goes by other names like Martin, LMB, Benjamin Franklyn, and The Punisher.

The Police has also warned people in public transportation including taxis, buses, those working in crowded places like markets and arcades, as well as those illegally operating bars to be on high alert.
