Police Finally Speaks Out On Unruly Sipapa’s Shooting At NUP Offices

Police have confirmed they are looking into two shooting incidents involving city music promoter and socialite Charles Olim better known as Sipapa, and supporters of Presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Sipapa has been accused of invading the Bobi Wine’s NUP party offices in Kamwokya on two occasions and discharging his fire arm at party supporters.

The last incident took place yesterday Tuesday in the afternoon.

According to NUP Spokesperson Joel Senyonyi, Sipapa came to their offices and started a clash which ended in the shooting.

Police Spokesman Fred Enanga

“This evening, the fellow who drives this car came for the second time around NUP offices in Kamwokya, provoked the youth there, shot at our gate and injured someone, Police came to escort him and not to arrest him,” Senyonyi said.

He went on to wonder whether or not Sipapa was one of police operatives and whether he was above the law.

Speaking this morning, Police Spokesman Fred Enanga said police was aware of the incident

He said Police were already looking into another similar incident last month in which Sipapa also fired shots at the NUP offices.

According to the Enanga however, during the first incident Sipapa appeared to have been provoked by the People Power supporters.

“I remember the earlier incident we got a complaint and when we investigated we learnt that there was a group of people who blocked his passage around the offices of NUP and his security detail fired warning shots in the air,” Enanga said.

“The matter was filed at Kira Road Police Station and one person was arrested.”

The police spokesman also revealed that it was Sipapa himself who filed a complaint with police about the incident.

He however, said he was unaware whether a formal complaint was filed in regards to yesterday’s incident.

Enanga nonetheless says police will try to get to the bottom of the matter.

“In this case we want to find out who are those that were victimized so that we can get to follow it up,” he said.

“But we want to be careful not to rush to any conclusions.”

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango said he was unaware of the any complaint filed on yesterday’s incident.
