Kenya Presidential aspirants are set to appear before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearance to run for the presidency on August 9 while in South Africa Hundreds of residents have been evacuated following renewed floods.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati made the announcement today during a pre-nomination meeting with all presidential hopefuls at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi revealing that he will meet Azimio la Umoja One Kenya flag bearer Raila Odinga on 5th June and Kenya Kwanza Alliance flag bearer William Ruto will, on the other hand, appear before the electoral body on June 4 for clearance.

All presidential aspirants should present their nomination papers from May 29 to June 6 at the Bomas of Kenya.

IEBC requires all presidential aspirants with degrees from foreign institutions to obtain certification from Kenya’s Commission of University Education ahead of the clearance.

“Aspirants are also expected to comply with the law. In regard to the submission of signatures, today is the deadline.

Fourteen of the candidates in the President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race are leaders of various political parties, with one from a coalition party and forty others running as independents.

As of the May 16 deadline, the IEBC had received a total of 244 gubernatorial aspirants, 167 of whom are political party candidates while 77 are independent candidates.
