Schools Reopening: Prime Minister Nabbanja Reveals Next Move

Robinah Nabbanja the Rt Hon prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda has revealed that schools across the country are going to re-open soon and in phases.

The development was revealed on Wednesday during Plenary session after legislators asked for update on the government’s measures on combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Health and Education Ministries are developing a comprehensive plan for the re-opening of schools in a phased manner” the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister however, didn’t reveal the dates when this will happen. The lockdown is left with fewer days to end, which is building high expectations amongst students. Chances are high that the re-opening will happen after the 42-day lockdown.

The information now makes sense, the Minister of Education Hon. Janet Museveni’s remarks during the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) where she said that the government is looking into getting medical students back to school.

Last year, schools were similarly re-opened in phases starting with candidates, final year medical students, and final year students in other programmes both at low and high insititution of learning.

Government is still in a dilemma on what to do with classes that are stagnant and still in the same classes since last year. Classes like senior one and five will have two groups, those from the previous year and the ones whose results have just been released.
