The National Unity platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has said that NUP is not willing to join the new pressure group, People’s Front for Transition (PFT) that was launched this week with the sole purpose to overthrow president Museveni.
Ssenyonyi made the comments while appearing on NTV’s ‘Ebigambo Tebitta’ political show that airs on Saturday morning from 9:00 am.
”As NUP, we don’t need to join People’s Front for Transition to show our support. The most important thing is the unity of purpose, Ugandans already know they want change and these things of political groups are less important to them” Ssenyonyi said.
A section of Uganda’s opposition parties this week unveiled a new pressure group named People’s Front for Transition which will be led by Dr Kizza Besigye, as the National Chairman deputized by the lord mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago however to the surprise of many, NUP was not represented nor talked about which raised eyebrows among some politicians on social media saying NUP has been excluded from the front with others saying the new front is meant to counter NUP’s support.
Now in response, Ssenyonyi has dismissed allegations that the new front is meant to fight NUP.
”We do not see People’s Front for Transition as the opposition and I don’t think that their motive is to fight NUP. If it is, then it is too small-minded. We need to focus on change rather than on political groups” Ssenyonyi said.
According to national chairman Dr Kizza Besigye, the new front is meant to oust President Museveni whom they say has overstayed in power adding that the new front will give the current NRM government a knockout.
Members within the Front include the People’s government FDC, CP, Activists), the DP block, Social Democratic Party and UYD) UPC’s Peter Walubiri faction, JEEMA among others.
