Health ministry Permanent Secretary (PS) Diana Atwine has been awarded the 2021 COVID19 Response, Recovery & Resilience Award of Exceptional Perseverance.
This was during one of the functions to mark International Youth Day Thursday at Kololo airstrip in Kampala.
This award highlights Dr Atwine’s action and results-oriented work in the fight against COVID-19 in Uganda.
Atwine also commissioned the Princess Diana Community Health Centre along Salaama Road, a project of the Uganda’s Ambassador for women and girls to support vulnerable girls and women affected by COVID19.
“We should encourage young people and support their initiatives because what we have all grown to achieve in life is because some people mentored us and supported our dreams,” said Atwine while receiving the award.
The award also comes after a protest in which youth dropped a coffin near Mulago hospital protesting Atwine’s reappointment and demanding her immediate resignation.
Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng condemned the matter and asked the Ugandans to appreciate Atwine’s contribution.
In the past 24 hours, the country recorded only 11 coronavirus deaths.
Results of COVID-19 tests done on 10 August 2021 confirmed 157 new cases.
The cumulative confirmed cases are 96,224.
